My Reiki Story
I will never forget the first time I experienced Reiki. I was just 8 years old and we were on a family trip in Idaho visiting family friends. Sheila, who was kind of like an aunt to me, was a Reiki Master and gave each of us a Reiki treatment. She was a true angel. One of those people that you can feel the warmth, love, and radiant light beaming through them in the first moment you meet them.
Receiving Reiki from her was the greatest gift. For the remainder of our vacation, she took me under her wing. She taught me how to give Reiki and I would practice with her. She sent me home with my first pendulum and book about Reiki, and I studied them carefully. There was something so special and sacred about this practice.
When I returned home I began my own Reiki “business” giving my family members treatments in my bedroom and charging them .50 cents per session. What a steal! 🤣
Sheila passed away years ago after battling cancer for over a decade. She was a fighter, and I truly believe her spirituality kept her on this earth longer than the cancer intended.
In the fall of 2024, I became officially Reiki II certified through my 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training. While undergoing the attunement for Reiki II, my teacher called on any mentors or guides, and Sheila’s face was suddenly there right in front of me. I felt her warmth, love, and light radiate throughout my whole body. It was a truly remarkable, out-of-body experience. I feel so connected to the Reiki practice and now feel as though Sheila is here with me, continuing to share her own healing energies with the world.
My hope is that through Reiki, I can help bring a sense of peace, ease, and balance back into people’s lives. We all move so fast. So. So. Fast. Creating a space for people to be still, feel into their body, and benefit from the channeling of energy feels like a powerful tool.
